Earlier this week, Audi showed us the restructured A7 in all its five-door coupe/fastback sedan glory. Featuring the same semi-autonomous driving technology and commercial system as the recently revealed A8 star sedan, the A7 seems to be a contender for competitors like the Mercedes-Benz CLS and BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe. It's definitely sleeker than the A8, but how does the A7’s new design compare to its antecedent?
It would also really make some sense for the A7 to have more access to its design information from the A5 Sportback, but it really doesn't. Although there are resemblance, especially in the hood, but the A7 features its own wide grille and nice headlights. The grille and headlights are also the biggest change you will notice from the former A7’s front end, as well. In profile, Audi left the whole shape almost unchanged, only now with sharper creases in some of the body panels.
At the back, Audi gave the restructured A7 an entirely different taillights. Running the complete width of the rear end, these LED taillights might be the most controversial design verdict on the A7. If you ask us, they look like some very nice versions of the ones Hyundai uses on some of its vehicles. The A7’s most excellent feature—its seldom hatch—is still there, though.
Inside it, Audi resisted the urge to reuse the A8’s cabin, giving the dash and center console their own distinctive look. It’s also a big distinction from what we initially had in the former A7. Fortunately, the touchscreen is better integrated into the dash this time around. The new A7 also gets a lot more tech than it had in the previous version.
The production of the latest A7 will start in early 2018, but U.S. market will have to wait a little longer during the year to drive one. It would be powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 making a good 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. But if you want more than that, we believe the more powerful S7 and RS 7 will follow up soon. Let us know what you think about the new version in the comment section below.
